What a Fieldbus Island Adds
A standard island uses one multipin plug. A fieldbus island adds a bus node, which is a small controller on the island that talks to the PLC. That brings:
- Fewer cables: one network cable and one power cable for the whole island.
- Diagnostics: the PLC can see a broken coil, a short circuit or low voltage.
- Local inputs and outputs: modules for sensors, analog signals and extra outputs.
- Separate power: valve power can be cut for safety while the network stays live.
Common Protocols
- EtherNet/IP: widely used with Rockwell and Allen-Bradley PLCs.
- PROFINET: common on Siemens systems.
- EtherCAT: for fast, tightly timed motion control.
- Modbus TCP: a simple open option on many PLCs.
- IO-Link: a point to point link, handy for small islands near the machine.
- Older fieldbuses: PROFIBUS, DeviceNet and CANopen are still running on many sites.
The protocol must match your PLC. A PROFINET node will not talk on an EtherNet/IP network.
Replacing a Bus Node or Island
- Read the series and the node part number from the label.
- Note the protocol, firmware version and network address.
- Back up the PLC project and the island’s configuration.
- Fit the new node, then load the right configuration file, such as a GSDML, EDS or ESI file.
- Set the device name or IP address, then test each valve from the PLC.
Valve modules can usually be swapped without touching the network setup.
Getting Good Results
- Use shielded industrial network cable and proper connectors.
- Keep network cables away from motor and drive cables.
- Fit a separate, switched supply for valve power.
- Use the diagnostics in your PLC program, not just the outputs.
Fieldbus Valve Islands Specifications to Check
- Island series and number of valve stations
- Network protocol and connector type
- Input, output and analog modules
- Power supply for the valves and the logic
- IP rating, such as IP65 or IP67
- Valve functions and flow per station
Why Buy From TSA Hydraulics Engineering
As a fieldbus valve islands supplier, we match the series, protocol and node, so the replacement fits and joins your network. You get OEM or equivalent options, and help sourcing fieldbus valve islands replacement parts such as bus nodes, I/O modules, valve modules and seals. We tell you upfront whether a part is genuine or an equivalent.
