What Servo Duty Asks of a Pump
- Low speed at high pressure: holding pressure at very low rpm without losing efficiency.
- Wide speed range: going from near zero to full speed in a fraction of a second.
- Four quadrant running: some systems reverse the pump to decompress, so it briefly works as a motor.
- Low internal leakage: less leakage means the motor can slow down further at hold.
- Good suction: filling properly at the top of the speed range.
Pumps Rated for Servo Duty
- Internal gear pumps: the most common choice. They’re quiet and tolerant of stop-start running, with gap compensation for low leakage.
- Fixed axial piston pumps: higher pressures and larger flows, and often rated for four quadrant use.
- Variable piston pumps with dual control: the servo motor varies the speed while the pump reduces its displacement during hold, for the biggest savings.
Always check the maker’s servo rating, including the minimum speed at full pressure.
Replacing the Pump in a Servo Unit
- Read the pump code, and note its displacement and rotation.
- Check whether the unit reverses the pump to decompress.
- Confirm the flange and shaft suit the existing bell housing and coupling.
- If the displacement changes, update it in the servo drive settings.
- Flush the system and change the filters before starting the new pump.
Signs Your Servo Pump Is Wearing
The servo drive is a useful health monitor. Watch for:
- Hold speed creeping up: the motor turns faster at hold to cover growing internal leakage.
- Rising oil temperature on the same cycle.
- Slower pressure build up, or longer cycle times.
- New noise at low speed.
Trending the hold speed in the drive often warns of a worn pump months ahead.
Servo Hydraulic Pumps Specifications to Check
- Pump type and displacement (cc/rev)
- Continuous and peak pressure
- Minimum and maximum speed at full pressure
- Four quadrant rating, if the unit reverses
- Flange, shaft and port details
- Noise level at typical operating points
Why Buy From TSA Hydraulics Engineering
As a servo hydraulic pump supplier, we check the servo rating, not just the displacement, so the new pump suits the way your unit actually runs. You get OEM or equivalent options, and help sourcing servo hydraulic pumps replacement parts such as seal kits, shaft seals and couplings. We tell you upfront whether a pump is genuine or an equivalent.
