Hydraulic Hose
- Wire braid hose (1SN and 2SN types): flexible, for low to high pressure on most machines.
- Spiral hose (4SP, 4SH and R13 types): for very high pressure and heavy pressure surges.
- Thermoplastic hose: light and flexible, common on lifts and small machines.
- Suction and return hose: low pressure and large bore, built not to collapse.
Pressure ratings drop as hose size goes up, so always check the rating for your size, not just the type.
Pipes and Tube
- Seamless steel tube: neat, rigid runs on power units and machines, with less expansion than hose.
- Stainless tube: for corrosive, marine and food areas.
- 24° cone compression fittings: the common way to join metric tube.
- SAE flanges: for large bore, high flow pump and valve connections.
Use tube for fixed runs, and hose where parts move or vibrate.
Fittings, Adaptors and Test Points
- Adaptors join different thread types, such as BSP to JIC or metric to SAE.
- Test points let you plug in a gauge or sensor without opening the system.
- Sampling valves give a clean point for oil samples.
- Quick couplings make connecting and disconnecting tools fast and clean.
Inline adaptors also let you fit flow sensors and temperature probes into existing lines.
Identifying Threads
- BSPP (parallel) and BSPT (taper): common in Australia, with a 55° thread angle.
- NPT: the American taper thread, with a 60° thread angle.
- JIC 37° flare: common on mobile and imported machines.
- ORFS (O-ring face seal): very leak resistant, and popular on newer equipment.
- Metric 24° cone: used with metric tube and on many European machines.
A thread gauge and a set of callipers solve most identification problems.
Common Leak Points
- Mismatched threads forced together.
- Taper threads sealed with too much tape, which can crack ports.
- O-rings that are reused, pinched or the wrong material for the oil.
- Fittings loosened by vibration because the tube runs aren’t clamped.
- Over tightened flare fittings with damaged cones.
- H2: Hose Safety and Replacement
- Pick hose by size, temperature, application, media and pressure.
- Route hoses so they don’t rub, twist or bend tighter than their minimum radius.
- Replace hoses that are cracked, blistered, kinked or leaking at the crimp.
- Never feel for a leak with your hand. A pinhole jet can inject oil through skin.
Hoses, Pipes & Fittings Specifications to Check
- Hose type, size and working pressure
- Temperature range and fluid compatibility
- Thread type and size on both ends
- Tube outside diameter and wall thickness
- Fitting material and plating
- Minimum bend radius and length
Why Buy From TSA Hydraulics Engineering
As a hoses, pipes & fittings supplier, we identify the thread and match the pressure rating before anything is cut or ordered. You get clear prices in AUD, OEM or equivalent options, and help sourcing hoses, pipes & fittings replacement parts such as adaptors, test point caps and couplings. We tell you upfront whether a part is genuine or an equivalent.
