Kawasaki Pump Types
K3V and K5V Tandem Pumps
The Kawasaki K3V and K5V series are swash plate axial piston pumps, usually built as tandem units with two pumps on one shaft. Each side feeds its own group of functions, and each has its own regulator setting flow against pressure and engine power. They’re the most common Kawasaki pumps on mid size excavators.
K7V and Large Machine Pumps
The K7V series and other large frame Kawasaki pumps suit bigger excavators and mining machines. Rotating groups for these pumps are costly, so careful diagnosis before replacement pays off.
Pilot and Auxiliary Gear Pumps
The gear pump mounted on the back of a Kawasaki main pump supplies pilot oil for the joystick controls and sometimes a fan or auxiliary circuit. It’s cheap to replace and easy to forget.
Single and Industrial Pumps
Kawasaki also builds single open circuit pumps, such as the K3VL series, for cranes, drilling rigs, presses and industrial power units. These are matched on displacement, control, shaft and flange like any piston pump.
Reading a Kawasaki Pump Code
A Kawasaki pump code describes the series, displacement of each side, rotation, regulator type and options. Excavator builders often fit their own number as well, so the pump may carry two. Send both, plus photos of the nameplate and both regulators. Matching the regulator matters as much as matching the pump.
Is It the Pump or Something Else?
A slow excavator often gets blamed on the main pump. The real cause is frequently a worn pilot pump, a regulator out of adjustment, a weak engine or a sticking control spool. Pressure and flow tests at each side of the pump, plus a pilot pressure check, usually point to the answer. Testing first can save the cost of a main pump that didn’t need replacing.
Repair, Rebuild or Replace
Kawasaki pumps are built to be rebuilt. Pistons and shoes, cylinder blocks, valve plates, swash plates, bearings and seal kits can restore a pump with a sound housing. Rebuilds suit pumps caught before major damage, while replacement makes sense when the housing is scored, the shaft is worn or contamination has spread through the whole pump. We’ll lay out both options with prices and lead times.
Genuine, Superseded or Equivalent
Where a genuine Kawasaki pump is available, we’ll quote it. Equivalent pumps and rotating groups are common for the popular K3V and K5V sizes and can cut cost and lead time. Every quote states which you’re getting.
Related Pump Brands and Components
Kawasaki hydraulic pumps sit alongside other pump OEMs in our range. Compact machine pumps are covered under Kayaba hydraulic pumps, forklift and loader drive pumps under Linde hydraulic pumps, and centrifugal water pumps under Grundfos. The swing and travel motors and control valves that work with Kawasaki pumps are covered under hydraulic motors and directional control valves.
