Our Power Unit Range
Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs)
Standard and custom HPUs for presses, machine tools, test rigs, lifts and mobile plant. Each unit is sized around your flow, pressure and duty, with the pump, motor, valves, filtration and cooling chosen as one set.
Hydraulic Systems and Power Units
Complete systems built around a specific machine, from the power unit through the valves and pipework to the cylinders or motors. Ideal when you want one supplier responsible for the whole circuit.
Servo Hydraulic Systems
Power units driven by a servo motor and drive, changing pump speed to match each step of the cycle. They suit presses and injection moulding machines with long hold or idle times, where they cut energy, heat and noise.
Variable Speed Pump Systems
Packaged units with a variable speed drive on a standard motor. A simpler, lower cost way to slow the pump down when the machine waits.
Electro-Hydraulic Pump Systems
Compact electric power packs, often DC or single phase, for lifts, tailgates, clamps, actuators and remote equipment where a full HPU would be too big.
What’s Inside a Power Unit
- Tank: holds the oil, lets air and dirt settle and sheds heat.
- Pump and motor: joined by a bell housing and coupling.
- Valve manifold: directional, pressure and flow valves on one block.
- Filtration: return, pressure and breather filters.
- Cooling: air blast or water cooled, sized for the hottest day.
- Accumulators: where fast strokes or emergency power are needed.
- Instruments: pressure, temperature and level gauges or sensors.
Sizing Basics
A quick rule for motor power is pressure (bar) × flow (L/min) ÷ 600, then divided by the pump efficiency. For example, 200 bar at 30 L/min needs about 10 kW before losses.
Also allow for:
- The duty cycle: how long the unit runs at full pressure versus idle.
- Heat: much of the lost power ends up in the oil.
- Tank size and cooling: a smaller tank needs more cooling.
- Future needs: spare valve stations and power for extra functions.
Fixed Speed, Variable Speed or Servo?
- Fixed speed: simple and low cost, best for steady duties.
- Variable speed: saves energy on machines with long idle times.
- Servo: the most efficient and precise, best on cycling presses and moulding machines.
If you’re not sure, a short duty cycle review usually makes the choice clear.
Standard or Custom Power Unit?
Standard units are quicker and cheaper when the duty fits. Custom units suit special pressures, tight spaces, hazardous areas, stainless construction or integration with an existing machine. Our engineering team designs custom units, and complete packages are built with trusted fabrication partners where needed. Our system design and modelling service can check the circuit before anything is built. For pumps mounted on a frame with pipework and controls, see our skid systems.
Where Our Power Units Work
- Mining and heavy industry: crushers, conveyors and maintenance equipment.
- Steel and metal forming: presses and coil handling lines.
- Plastics: injection moulding and blow moulding machines.
- Marine: steering gear, winches and deck machinery.
- Test and maintenance: test benches, jacking and torque tools.
Keeping a Power Unit Healthy
- Check the oil level and temperature every shift.
- Change filter elements when the indicator says so.
- Keep coolers clean and fans working.
- Watch for new noise, heat or leaks, and act early.
Our lifecycle services can take on regular reviews and maintenance planning for you.
Power Units Specifications to Check
- Flow, pressure and duty cycle
- Motor power, voltage and starting method
- Tank volume and material
- Valve functions and manifold size
- Filtration rating and cooling capacity
- Controls, sensors and enclosure needs
Why Buy From TSA Hydraulics Engineering
As a power units supplier, we size the tank, pump, motor, valves and cooling as one set around your real duty. You get clear prices in AUD, OEM or equivalent components, and help sourcing power units replacement parts such as pumps, filter elements, coolers and seal kits for years after delivery. We tell you upfront which parts are genuine and which are equivalents.
