Choosing the Right HPU
- Tank: steel, aluminium or stainless, sized for heat and deaeration as well as volume.
- Motor mounting: top mounted on the tank lid, side mounted, or vertical with the pump submerged in the oil for quieter running.
- Pump type: gear for simple duties, vane for quiet medium pressure, piston for high pressure or variable flow.
- Power supply: 240 V single phase for small units, 415 V three phase for most industrial HPUs, or DC for mobile packs.
- Controls: manual levers, solenoid valves, proportional valves or a full PLC panel.
- Extras: accumulators, coolers, heaters, level and temperature switches and pressure transducers.
Standard HPU or Custom Build?
Standard units suit common duties and arrive faster. Custom HPUs suit special pressures, flows, materials, hazardous areas or tight spaces. Custom designs are drawn up by our engineers and built with trusted fabrication partners where needed, then tested before dispatch where possible.
For complete machine circuits, including the valves, pipework and actuators, see our hydraulic systems and power units.
Rebuild or Replace?
A rebuild usually makes sense when:
- The tank and frame are sound and clean inside.
- The layout still suits the machine.
- Only the pump, motor, valves or cooler are worn.
A replacement is usually better when:
- The tank is rusted or badly contaminated.
- The duty has changed a lot since it was built.
- Energy use is high, and a servo or variable speed unit would pay back quickly.
Energy Saving Options
A standard HPU runs its motor at full speed all day. On machines with long idle or hold times, consider:
- A variable speed drive to slow the motor when demand drops.
- A servo driven pump, for the biggest savings on cycling machines.
- A variable displacement pump with pressure compensation or load sensing.
Commissioning a New HPU
- Fill the tank through a filter, never straight from the drum.
- Fill the pump case and check the motor rotation.
- Start at low pressure and bleed air from the circuit.
- Set the relief valve and other pressures to the design values.
- Run in and check temperatures, noise and leaks before full production.
Our commissioning service can handle these steps on site.
Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) Specifications to Check
- Flow and maximum working pressure
- Motor power, voltage and starting method
- Tank volume, material and layout
- Pump type and valve functions
- Filtration, cooling and heating
- Controls, instruments and enclosure rating
Why Buy From TSA Hydraulics Engineering
As a hydraulic power units (HPUs) supplier, we size the tank, pump, motor, valves and cooling as one set around your real duty. You get clear prices in AUD, OEM or equivalent components, and help sourcing hydraulic power units (HPUs) replacement parts such as pumps, filter elements, coolers and seal kits for years after delivery. We tell you upfront which parts are genuine and which are equivalents.
