Types of Time Delay Valve
- On-delay (normally closed): the output turns on a set time after the signal arrives.
- On delay (normally open): the output turns off a set time after the signal arrives.
- Off delay: the output turns on at once, and stays on for a set time after the signal goes.
- Pulse valves: turn a long signal into a short, fixed pulse.
- Most adjust with a knob or screw, typically from under a second to around 30 seconds. Larger tanks give longer times.
Common Jobs
- Holding a clamp before a press stroke starts.
- Dwell time for heat sealing, gluing or pressing.
- Delaying the start of a second cylinder in a sequence.
- A short blow off pulse to clear parts.
- Purging a cabinet with air before equipment starts.
Getting Accurate Timing
Air timers are simple, but they aren’t as precise as electronic ones. To keep them steady:
- Feed them from a pressure regulator, because changes in the supply shift the timing.
- Keep the air clean and dry, because dirt blocks the tiny restriction.
- Allow reset time between cycles so the tank can empty.
- Fit a locking cap if operators keep adjusting the knob.
For very tight timing, a PLC or an electronic timer may be the better choice.
Replacing an Air Timer
- Note the function, and whether the output is normally closed or normally open.
- If the old valve still works, time it with a stopwatch before removing it.
- Check the port size and mounting.
- Fit the new valve, then set it to the recorded time and lock the adjustment.
Time Delay Valves Specifications to Check
- Function: on delay, off delay or pulse
- Normally closed or normally open output
- Time range and repeat accuracy
- Operating pressure range
- Port size and mounting
- Locking or tamper proof adjustment
Why Buy From TSA Hydraulics Engineering
As a time delay valves supplier, we match the function, time range and porting, so the new timer fits and behaves like the old one. You get OEM or equivalent options, and help sourcing time delay valves replacement parts such as reservoirs, adjusting caps and seals. We tell you upfront whether a valve is genuine or an equivalent.
