Pumps Around the Power Station
A power station is a network of pumping duties, and each one matters. Cooling water pumps move large volumes through condensers and coolers. Boiler feed and condensate pumps handle hot water at high pressure, usually with multistage pumps. Fuel oil and diesel transfer pumps keep standby generators and auxiliary boilers supplied. Ash, slurry and wastewater systems handle the by-products. Most of these duties run in duty and standby pairs, because a single failure can force a unit offline.
Lube Oil and Turbine Control Systems
Turbines and large generators rely on lube oil systems with main, auxiliary and emergency pumps, filters, coolers and accumulators. Turbine control and governor systems use high pressure hydraulics with servo valves to position steam, gas or water control valves precisely. These systems often use fire resistant fluids and need very clean oil, because a sticking servo valve can upset the whole unit.
Hydro and Renewable Plant
Hydro stations use hydraulics for wicket gates, inlet valves, spillway gates and governors, often with large accumulators for stored energy. Wind turbines use hydraulics for pitch control and braking, while solar thermal and biomass plants have their own pumping and cooling duties. Diesel and gas engine power stations add fuel, cooling and lube oil systems around each engine.
What Power Plant Equipment Needs
- Multistage pumps: for boiler feed and high pressure water duties.
- Centrifugal pumps: for cooling water and condensate.
- Hydraulic power units and accumulators: for turbine control and gate actuation.
- Filters and coolers: to keep lube and control oil clean and at temperature.
- Duty and standby arrangements: so one failure never trips a unit.
Reliability Over Decades
Power stations run for decades, so obsolete parts are a common problem. Original pumps and valves may no longer be made, and drawings may be lost. We cross reference old part numbers, match equivalents on dimensions and ratings, and help plan spares for outages. Regular performance and oil condition reviews catch wear before it forces an unplanned shutdown. Outage windows are short, so having parts and documents ready before the unit comes off line saves days.
Related Sectors
Power generation overlaps with other heavy industries. Networks, water utilities and remote assets are covered under power & utilities, and fuel supply and transfer under oil & gas. Mill and press hydraulics in steelworks sit under steel & metal forming.
What We Need From You
- Plant type and the system involved.
- Pump, valve or power unit part numbers and nameplate photos.
- Duty details: flow, pressure, temperature and fluid.
- Outage timing, if the work is planned.
