Directional Control Valves: 2/2 to 5/3 Way, Solenoid, Pilot and Manual

Directional control valves start, stop and steer the flow of oil or air, deciding which side of a cylinder or motor gets pressure. TSA Hydraulics Engineering supplies them as one of the four main families in our Valves range, for both hydraulic and pneumatic circuits.

When a directional valve stops shifting, the valve body is often fine. A burnt out coil or a spool jammed by dirty oil is far more common, and both cost less to fix. Send the codes from the valve and coil, and we will supply the part you need, whether that is a genuine valve, an equivalent or just a coil.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find your answer? Talk to an engineer.

1. What is the difference between a 4/2 and a 5/2 valve?

A 5/2 valve has a separate exhaust for each cylinder end, which suits pneumatic speed control. A 4/2 valve shares one return.

2. Can I just replace the coil?

Often, yes. If the spool moves with the manual override, a new coil of the right voltage usually fixes the problem.

3. Can you supply the directional control valves datasheet?

Yes. We send the datasheet with your quote, so you can check the directional control valves specifications first.

4. What affects the directional control valves price?

Size, number of positions, actuation type, coil and brand all affect the price.
